Today I decided to focus on figuring out the old puzzle. It took my mind off the flashbacks. If I burn one of the ropes from both ends while burning the other on one end, then that will measure 30 minutes. The first rope that was burned from both ends will be gone, and all I have to do is repeat the process for the rest of the second rope (burn it from both ends).
